IT Election issues

Add comment May 15th, 2007

If Broadband access or IT Communications are a major issue for you then Damien Mulley has a rundown on all the political parties manifestos and breaks down the jargon to reveal who’s offering the best promises or solutions in the upcoming election.

He reckons that Labour offers the manifesto that makes the most sense and is the most forward-thinking. So if Broadband access or quality or rates are affecting you then a vote for Labour appears to be the most logical option.

WordPress upgrade and site hosting

2 comments January 18th, 2007

Just updated to WordPress 2.0.7, a couple of security fixes and the like. Apparently version 2.1 is due out soon. Looking forward to that. WordPress (which, for anyone wondering, is the software that powers this blog) is a great piece of kit. It’s powerful yet very easy to use. Setting it up was pretty straightforward, upgrades are a breeze and I’ve never had any problems with it. Plus it works pretty nicely with Google too for those all important search rankings.

The site seemed to go down for a while last night but that must have been linked to the hosting. The hosting has always been excellent though, that’s the first time I’ve ever noticed a problem. It’s hosted in the US though and recently I’ve been thinking it would be better hosted here in Ireland. Seeing as I don’t have a .ie domain it would help with Google’s Irish search rankings to have it physically hosted in Ireland.

Hosting365 are the main Irish Hosting company I’m aware of but recently there’s been a lot of discussion/argument by some of the top Irish bloggers about the quality of Irish hosting services and in particular their customer service so I reckon I’ll hold off on this for a while until I can establish what’s what.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas, Seasons Greetings, Happy Holidays and all that.

Last day of work for 2006 has arrived. A nice week long break for Christmas coming up. Lots of eating and drinking and tv watching in store.

Good Irish Blogs

I have a link on the right hand side there to the top 100 Irish blogs created by Justin Mason using Technorati’s info. There are some good developer related blogs in there and it’s always good to see such talented Irish people as Tom Raftery and Donncha O Caoimh (who works on Wordpress). Unfortunately there’s an awful lot of crap there too, the kind of inane rants you could just as easily hear from a few drunks in the pub, it’s amazing that people want to read all that!

Turns out too that Jeremy Keith, who I mentioned last post, is in fact Irish! Never realised that (until he left a comment). Will have to organise a “Flash in the Pub” conference and get him over to speak! :)

Updates

Added a couple of work samples to the About page. Just to show some of the websites I work on. Most of the work here at Interactive Services is confidential, client specific so it can’t be showcased unfortunately.

I do a few personal/private websites when I can but development here at work is pretty hectic so that’s taking up most of my time at the moment.
