Madeira Holidays
April 30th, 2007
Just back from 2 weeks holidays on the Portuguese island of Madeira. Lovely spot. Click here to see a lot of photos we took.
The only flights to Madeira from Ireland are the travel agents charters on a Sunday. Club Travel or Panorama.
There are plenty of direct flights from the UK if you wanted to try make your own way there.

UPDATE: I’ve noticed quite a few people hitting this link searching for Madeira holiday information so I figured I’d add a bit more to it. This is back in May 07 we went. We stayed there for 2 weeks - which gave us enough time to do all the sights and tours including a trip to the lovely beach on the sister island of Porto Santo. I think in one week it would have been a bit rushed. We stayed in the Tivoli Ocean Park resort, an absolutely lovely hotel. The vast majority of the visitors are older people, many of them seemed to be return visitors so they obviously really like it. It’s definitely not the kind of island for the younger brigade (18-30) because there’s no sandy beaches on the island (that one I mentioned is a 2 hour ferry trip away) and not much in the way of late night partying. The pace of life is pretty relaxed, the temperature never gets too hot and the main source of interest on the island seems to be the flowers and plant life! The main town of Funchal, around which most of the hotels are situated, has loads of good places to eat. There’s some lovely food there including their specialities the espada fish (or black scabbard), espetada (chunks of beef on a skewer), and of course their famous Madeiran wine. Check out the photos for some sights.
